It's the most wonderful time of the year!

If it's the first Thursday in December, it must be Wassailing - Richland's annual open house! Once again, kids of all ages enjoyed a night of food, fun and entertainment. If you felt like something hot to eat, Gull Lake Graphics was serving chili and fixings and Prudential Preferred Realtors was serving up soup. The Personal Care Center was hosting a Chili cook-off; proceeds will be given to the 2010 Richland Area Relay for Life. Folks who stopped by Natural Solutions/ Gull Lake Chiropractic enjoyed their annual Health Fair Extravaganza featuring gluten - free foods and demonstrations... Who needs to cook dinner when it's Wassailing?

Wassailing

Richland’s Annual Open House is Thursday December 3rd from 5:30 – 8:00. Many local businesses will be open serving holiday refreshments and entertainment. Once again, the Kalamazoo Barber Shop Chorus will be performing at the Little Yellow Frame Shop & Gallery. The dancers from Daisies Dance Studio will be performing in front of the fireplace at 5:30 and again at 6:00 at the Richland Community Library. Stay and listen to the award winning Gull Lake High School band perform after 6:30 also in front of the fireplace. Always a highlight, the reindeer will return in the park right next to the local Boy Scout Troup selling their Christmas Trees and holiday wreaths. And don’t miss the Cat in the Hat at Kare’s Village Diner!

Back by popular demand, the Christmas Tree Challenge returns! Have your program signed by 7 businesses and bring it to Kiss Financial Services, 8881 Gull Road, across from Hardings for a chance to win prizes! That drawing will take place at 7:45.

The van from the Sherman Lake YMCA will be parked in front of the library ready to take visitors to businesses a bit farther out of town. It’s a free service to all!

For more information about Wassailing events, contact Mary at the Richland Community Library at 629-9085 Ext. 208.

It was a grand night for Wassailing as the village of Richland and neighboring areas stayed open late and welcomed families young and old out of the cold.

The Tradition of Wassailing in Richland celebrated its 35th year on December 4, 2008 from 5:30-8:00 p.m.. Businesses opened their doors and extended hospitality to the community and other guests by offering special holiday refreshments and entertainment.  A special program listing all the participating businesses was available prior to Wassailing.

As an incentive for Wassailers to visit as many businesses as they could, the Christmas Tree Challenge, a special feature, offered many prizes.

To facilitate getting around to all the participating businesses, the Wassailing vans picked people up in the Village Square and made a circuit from one end of the village to the other several times during the course of the evening.

Our community so appreciates the many musicians from Gull Lake Community Schools and other organizations who ventured out on a cold night to bring cheer to the Wassailers.
